A City Stitched Together. Bina's Kathmandu.
Look at a quilt by Bina Tiruwa-Sonar and you might feel something familiar — the energy of a city seen from above. Distinct patches of colour and texture sitting side by side, each one its own world, yet part of something larger. That is Kathmandu, where Bina lives and works. And that is what she brings to every quilt she makes.
Bina's work is rooted in Nepali culture — in the layered, diverse, and deeply human fabric of the city around her. Each quilt is a kind of snapshot: the busy market next to the quiet courtyard, the old neighbourhood beside the new. Different communities, different rhythms, stitched into one warm, coherent whole.
Like all Kokroma artisans, Bina makes the clothes you'll find throughout this store. These quilts are what she creates when the brief is simply: make something that is yours. Every piece is composed from scrap and offcut textiles rescued from the Kokroma studio — pre-washed, soft, and ready to use.
What Makes Bina's Quilts Distinctive
- Rooted in Nepali culture — inspired by the diverse communities of Kathmandu
- Layered & vibrant — distinct patches that feel alive together, like a city in miniature
- Truly one-of-a-kind — 11 designs, each a single piece; when it's gone, it's gone
- Zero waste — made entirely from pre-washed Kokroma production offcuts
- Handcrafted in Nepal — by an artisan who carries her city in every stitch
A Bina Tiruwa-Sonar quilt is a piece of Kathmandu — its colour, its community, its life — made warm enough to wrap around you.
